Name those Players!

You like? I got that poster from Mir 3 USA when I brought Starbucks and donuts to the headquarters in Seattle back in 2010. Met all the GMs and staff. They gave me the poster as a gift.
I cherish it so!

Can anyone translate the Korean writing? I always thought it said Mir 2 Open Beta.

Is that Zumataurus’ head the Dragon Slayer Sword wielding F warrior is sitting on?

Was that the Mir server where you could do more than the normal?

I quite enjoyed it, as a lot of development work went into it, but it seemed to die almost overnight.

Do you remember why?

That was quite the scandle... who was the GM that got caught helping the players get items?
I forgot his ingame name, but his real name is Alex. Met him in Seattle before he got canned.
He was pretty popular because he was always ingame answering questions as a “normal” player.

Kind of like Zade, just without GM power.

I remember when they sent an email saying they’re stopping it. Was a sad day then.

Merlin!!
Was it a he? Bcause of the three original GMs, she was the only female char.

Oh your talking about beta mir2! Ya she used to spawn rare mobs for friends. Then got banned, made a noob. I log in one morning a she had like 15 players surrounding her noob char in front of jewelry store of BW.
It was weird to witness. This was in winter of 2000/2001.

I believe it was God2020 who was getting items from a female GM..... Also, If my memory serves me rightly, I believe there was another UK guy who was originally a player and then made a GM.

I'm trying to remember, I'm sure there was a Mage who hated me called TheChosenOne.

I miss talking to ImAsheep2 in PK village.....
Oh god and then the invasion of Chinese players duplicating every item under the sun.

Wasn’t it Merlin the GM that was the player who became a GM? Same one that fell from grace.

I remember the duplication days. How were they doing that? I was told that you put an item in the trade box, and as you press trade you unplug your 56k modem. Never worked for me.

Remember the influx of Korean players during beta that had unusual names? People called them “koreaners”.

Possibly, can't remember the GMs too well. I was only 15-16 back then. God still remember suggesting they use Splash Plastic to allow us teens to play the game.

Can't remember how exactly they did the duping items, but that does make sense or I believe they would drop an item on the floor at the same time as it being in trade window. I believe the Casino caused loads of issues with duplicating items too.

Wow just remembered a name... Bullpit, toobad Camalot which came up in this post: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/legend-of-mir.18453272/page-1

Memory unlocked hah. I had a splash plastic card. Those were the days.

I remember splash plastic being used for mir in the UK, but we unfortunately didn't have it available in the USA. I once had SweetCheeks the female Warr pay for my account for a month. Even though it was a older military dude. lol

That Overclocked Forum was an amazing Read!
Felt like I was thrown back to the magic I am now again recapturing on Arcadia. =)

When I was 15, I would listen to these songs on repeat while playing mir nonestop and imagine one day flying to the land of the MirPeople in the UK.

As of today, I have traveled to the UK numberous times and in different ways. Everytime I go, I feel the presence of all the Mir People I once played mir with around me. I would somehow feel, at home.

Did the people of UK listen to these songs in the early 2000s?

Did we? Pah! I still do 😁 although not as much I did in the past

What's weird about that thread on overclockers is it's full of people reminiscing about playing Mir back in the day. Then you realise those posts were written 12 years ago 😭

I listened to System of a Down CD on repeat when hunting BC... then going to my mates house (bloodluster) and taking turns lvling our characters... he had a 1mb connection, so it was weird moving normally.

I think mining Black Iron Ore for hours sent me a bit nuts..... the fact you didn't have window mode was terrible and my trash PC wasn't good enough to use a VM.

1mb was true privilage back then. I would lag so bad on 56k that I was reduced to hutning only in Dead Mines. Anything more(like Stone Tomb) I couldnt outrun them and fight as a Mage.

When hunting in BC, would you also eat seeds as a pastime activity?

For me it was always Linkin Park

Probably my fave memory of early Mir was something that wasn't even technically part of the game

My dad was sick of me playing too late at night so he moved the PC into my mum's office which was a segregated part of the garage and had no heating. He figured I'd come in and go to bed when it got too cold. Never underestimate the determination of a teenage gamer.

I was so determined to play more, so I saved up and bought an electric heater. When he found it he cut the plug off it. I went as far as asking my physics teacher to show me how to rewire a plug, and he did. So I managed to fix the plug (did take a couple of attempts) and my dad was that impressed he decided to drop it and just let me play.

Was so proud of myself 😂

No matter what your Dad says to you, you persevere with that winning willpower.

Because Dazzle pushes himself, until he's about to break.
