It wasn't meant to take hours to enter the caves but RNG can be a bitch like that. Noted though, for future we will see more about achieving entrance rather than just waiting for it.
I do believe the delay in entrance is important to throttle player entrance. For example you may enter the cave and know that no one followed you - you have the cave to yourself for a little while and don't feel under pressure to catch all the Chests or Supers
