latency or better known as "lag"

OK, so i have been away from the game for a while. Installed etc.. but the lag is terrible. And yes ran compatibility, didnt make any difference. I started a new character, and it was a real pain to play, if i was in a zone that was challenging, i would have died many times.

Seems to be random, but every few seconds, got it at starter home and even bichon.

So the question is, is anyone else having this problem, or is it just me. Dont seem to be having any other problems with gamingwise. Anyone have any suggestions?

Does the whole game freeze up, like can't move cursor or anything? That would suggest CPU or disk

Or if you can still control the computer but the mobs and character lock up or go jittery? That would suggest network

In the case of cpu/disk, open task manager and make sure nothing else heavy is running. The most common culprit is anti virus, get that all paused etc while you're playing

For network, make sure nobody else sharing your connection is doing any heavy downloads/uploads, and don't use any VPNs or anything

Sorry, slapping my wrists, yes i usually give that sort of detail. So doesnt seem to be anything with the machine. I had a mobo failure last week and so its a virgin build of windows 11, and man have they messed the lasted build up, but thats a different subject.

So it is like mir of old when they had a DOS attack, your character will freeze, and then the benny hill effect with the mobs coming after you. Everything else is working fine, the mobs freeze but are animated, sound effects still play, its like the character itself is on pause. I also did a virgin install of the game, while i was at it.

All other online games i have on that SSD have no problem,

ok after a lot of trial and errory stuff, have sussed the problem out, it is my end. It seems that microsoft are now pro wifi, yep i came across a small problem when i installed windows, it looped on the drivers for wifi. So although on ethernet and having no drivers installed for the wifi, it had wifi enabled - dont ask - so i had to find the drivers, which werent the ones that supposed to be on the disk, and then disable wifi, and wahoooo! no lag.

You would think that when you have something working, you dont go along and make it "unwork", would you. But we are talking microsoft here though... So job sorted. So lesson learnt was to make sure that either wifi or lan is enabled.... wifi wasnt even logged on to any internet point, so i have no idea what it was doing.

thanks anyway
Steve

Glad you got it sorted!

I've not experienced that one, but that's wild for sure and does sound very microsofty 😂

I'm always on ethernet for gaming, WiFi is a big source of latency which can make a huge difference in games like this.

I'd go so far as to change my SSID so the gaming machine has no way to connect even if it wants to

i've been online gaming way before broadband, let alone fibre. beta tested mir, which is what got me into mmorgp's ok we got a bit of lag, but with dial up, you got used to it.

I've been using wifi on the other motherboard, with lan, wifi i used to connect my vr headset from around the house, never had a problem, until the mobo blew a week last thursday. The drivers for the wifi part of the board werent the chipset that IS on the board, so windows installation had a hissy with that. The wifi hadnt even been logged onto an access point either. like you that is a new one to me also.

The new install was a pain as i do video for my local church, and their cameras use ac3 codecs of which microsoft has now removed from their installations, ok if its an upgrade, but not a virign install.

Both my SSD's are m2 so they are faster than any sata drive, i have one dedicated to gaming.

Was nice to be able to play, got to relearn the new mir locations. Bobsyouruncle is over lvl100 and havent a clue where stuff is or whats in my bag, so doing one from scratch to get my head around things, that was suppose to be "bob2" but guess who didnt spell check? yep! "bon2".
